Humiliated in Class, College Girl Ends Life

COIMBATORE:A 17-year-old college student,  consumed poison at her home and died at a private hospital here on Tuesday after being allegedly humiliated by her professor in the class.

In a suicide note, the teenager, S Kalaivani, had blamed one of the teachers of humiliating her in front of the entire class, forcing her to take the extreme step.

Selvapuram police said the victim was a B.Com student at a private arts and science college in Kovaipudur. She had alleged in her 4-page suicide note that professor Banupriya had humiliated her in the class by forcing to take a seminar for which she was not prepared. This humiliation had driven her to commit suicide. Kalaivani is said to have consumed poison in the intervening night between Monday and Tuesday. Her parents rushed her to a hospital where she was declared brought dead.

Police registered a case against Banupriya under section 306 (of IPC (abetment of suicide). Police said the suicide note had been sent for an expert opinion and handwriting analysis.
