CUDDALORE: In a tragic end to a love triangle, one woman killed another and the accused committed suicide. Dhivya and Chitra, both 19-year-old nurses, were friends until Mohan, a bus conductor, entered their lives.

Both were in love with the man, but though Chitra married him, Dhivya was unwilling to give up and would repeatedly approach him. “This exasperated Chitra, and apparently, Mohan too was upset with Dhivya’s behaviour. So the couple decided to finish her off,” said a police official.

In the second week of May, Chitra called Dhivya to Thiruvamur for a drink and after she consumed it, the couple strangulated and buried her near the Gadilam river bed, sources said. Upon being questioned, Chitra confessed to the crime, and on Thursday, when the police took her to the crime scene to gather evidence, she said she had buried Chitra’s phone in a cashew grove.

As the cops searched for the phone, she ran and jumped into an abandoned well nearby, killing herself.  “Mohan is still absconding. Only when we arrest him will we know what exactly happened between the three,” said  Cuddalore SP C Vijayakumar.
