CHENNAI: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Friday announced a solatium of Rs five lakh to the family of N Logeswari, the college girl who died on Thursday in a mishap during a disaster management workshop in her institution - Kovai Kalaimagal College of Arts and Science at Coimbatore.

Palaniswami also directed police and higher education department to take stringent action against those who organised the drill without obtaining due approval. He condoled the student’s death and expressed his sympathies to the family of the deceased.

A disaster management training programme turned into a tragedy when a 19-year-old girl, forced to jump from the second floor of her college building, died after her head hit the sunshade of the first floor.

The incident took place on Thursday evening in a private college near Narasipuram in the district. The girl, N Logeshwari, was one of the 20 students being trained to jump from buildings during emergencies.

A second-year BBA student, Logeshwari was a native of Nathegoundenpudur, near Alandurai.

In a video that has gone viral, the girl is seen being pushed by the National Disaster Management trainer from the height, when she showed signs of anxiety about jumping down.
