CHENNAI: In what could be a biggest mystery in the highly secured perimeters of the Chennai Metro, a body was found at the elevated stretch of Metro Rail near Airport Metro Station on Friday night.

The body, believed to be of a man in the 35-40 age group, had injuries in leg and ribs, according to the Meenambakkam police.

The police said the incident happened in the Airport Metro Station limits at around 9.30 pm. The man was hit by the train, police added. “We are investigating the case,” police said.

However, Chennai Metro Rail sources told Express that the man was not hit by a metro train. A spokesman said that the man was found to have jumped on the viaduct from platform and was chased away by the authorities around 6 pm. Officials are clueless about how he entered into the high-security premises again.

Police said that they are yet to ascertain the identity of the man who is suspected to be mentally challenged. Police have sought the CCTV footage and further investigations are on.
