1,361 Candidates File Nominations in TN ; S Roshini, the only transgender candidate so far

Though four days remain before the deadline, only two working days April 4 and April 6 are available for submitting nominations, as April 3 and 5 are public holidays.

CHENNAI: As many as 1,361 candidates have filed their nominations for the Assembly election till Thursday. Among them is S Roshini of Naam Tamilar Katchi, the lone transgender candidate in the fray so far. On the first day of filing, a total of 573 nominations were submitted.

Though four days remain before the deadline, only two working days April 4 and April 6 are available for submitting nominations, as April 3 and 5 are public holidays. Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin (Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni), TVK president Vijay (Tiruchy East), AIADMK leader D Jayakumar (Royapuram), PMK’s M Thilagabama (Perambur) and Porkodi (Thiru Vi Ka Nagar) were among those who filed nominations on Thursday.

Porkodi, the wife of slain BSP state president K Armstrong, is contesting on the AIADMK’s ‘Two Leaves’ symbol under the banner of the Tamil Maanila Bahujan Samaj Katchi. AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami is yet to file the papers and is expected to do so on April 6.
