Narendra Modi will arrive in Chennai on Friday and proceed to Puducherry for a roadshow ahead of the April 9 Assembly polls in the Union Territory.

He will land in Chennai and travel to Puducherry by helicopter.

The 1.7 km-long roadshow from Ajantha Signal Junction to Anna Square is scheduled to commence after 4.15 pm, following the Prime Minister’s arrival.

He is likely to address a rally in support of the ruling AINRC-led NDA, headed by Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy.

The BJP, AIADMK, and the fledgling LJK are among the constituents of the NDA.

NDA leaders and candidates will accompany the Prime Minister at the event, which is expected to see the participation of over 30,000 people, the BJP said on Friday.

Assembly Speaker R Selvam told reporters in Puducherry that the Prime Minister will reach the Union Territory at 4.15 pm and drive straight to Ajantha Junction for the roadshow, which is likely to last about an hour.

Thereafter, he will return to Chennai for an overnight halt at a hotel in Guindy, and on April 4 will interact with BJP leaders in a closed-door meeting.

Police have deployed forces in Chennai and the Union Territory as part of the security arrangements for the Prime Minister.
