CHENNAI: DMK MLA and former minister V Senthil Balaji appeared before the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) here on Saturday for an inquiry into alleged irregularities in the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (Tasmac) liquor business.
Speaking to reporters after appearing before the DVAC, Balaji criticised the government over issues raised in the Assembly on the Electricity Board (EB). He questioned the electricity minister over 38 hard disks reportedly recovered after 18 were initially said to be missing. “I asked where the remaining 20 hard disks were recovered from, but there was no answer,” he said.
He also cited the government’s white paper, which, he said, recorded the replacement or installation of 99,000 transformers during the previous DMK regime, and stated that the EB’s annual debt had declined from Rs 14,500 crore in 2020-21 to Rs 933 crore in 2025-26.
Regarding claims of three files against the DMK of corruption in as many departments which the CM claimed to be on his table, Balaji said they should be released if they existed.
The DVAC registered the case on July 28 against Balaji, former Tasmac MD S Visakan, IAS, officials, and companies.
