CHENNAI: The third edition of Kalvi Kural, a symposium on foundational learning in the country, held on Saturday, brought together policymakers, government officials, teachers, students, researchers, technology experts, and civil society representatives to put forth their views on various issues affecting teaching and learning in primary classes.
The discussions covered the use of artificial intelligence in classrooms, whether a common foundational learning model could work across the country, assessment and measurement, community participation, teacher mentoring and the role of children in shaping schools.
Speaking at the event, Tamil Nadu Infrastructure Development Board CEO Pooja Kulkarni said foundational learning should not be treated as a time-bound programme but should become central to the functioning of every classroom.
She stressed the need to align teaching, assessment, remediation and teacher support with learning outcomes and called for continuous support for teachers and greater involvement of parents and communities. The event also saw students from government schools discuss how they wanted classrooms to function.
