CHENNAI: Finance Minister N Marie Wilson on Tuesday claimed in the Assembly that he had himself been forced to pay a bribe in connection with the school education department during the previous DMK regime. Following the allegation, former School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi demanded that the DVAC question Wilson over his admission that he had paid a bribe.
Responding to the DMK’s demand that he produce evidence to substantiate allegations of corruption, Wilson told the House, “I am the evidence.”
Referring to Anbil Mahesh, Wilson said he was prepared to disclose how much he had allegedly been made to pay as a bribe at ‘Global’ in T Nagar. “I can say how much you received for minority institutions,” he said.
Later, speaking to reporters at Anna Arivalayam, Anbil Mahesh said Wilson’s statement warranted an investigation and that he should be the first person questioned. “The DVAC should interrogate the minister first on how much he gave and to whom he gave it,” he added.
