Telangana Shakuntala, popular comedian and character artiste died following a cardiac arrest here in the wee hours of Saturday. She was 63 and survived by two children.

HYDERABAD: Telangana Shakuntala, popular comedian and character artiste died following a cardiac arrest here in the wee hours of Saturday. She was 63 and survived by two children.

The actress suffered cardiac arrest in her house at Kompally on the city outskirts on Friday midnight and was rushed to Narayana Hrudyalaya Hospital, where she was declared brought dead. Born in Maharashtra, Shakuntala started her film career with ‘Ma Bhoomi’ in 1981 and went on to act in more than 70 films.

At ease in both Telangana and Rayalaseema accents, the audience particularly liked her powerful dialogue delivery.

The movies she is best remembered for are ‘Osey Ramulamma’, ‘Nuvvu Nenu’, ‘Gulabi’, ‘Lakshmi’ and ‘Okkadu’.

Born in Maharashtra, Shakuntala started her career as a stage artiste before foraying into the film industry. ‘Pandavulu Pandavulu Tummeda’ was her last film. Several members of the film industry paid last respects to her and many of them recollected their association with the actress. The final rites were performed at Alwal crematorium on Saturday evening.
