60 Acres Near Durgam Cheruvu Encroached

The Telangana Assembly Estimate Committee has found that nearly 60 acres near Durgam Cheruvu in Madhapur here has been encroached.

HYDERABAD: The Telangana Assembly Estimate Committee has found that nearly 60 acres near Durgam Cheruvu in Madhapur here has been encroached. The land grabbers have constructed  complexes surrounding the lake, committee chairman Solipeta Ramalinga Reddy has said.

Ramalinga Reddy along with other members Madhavaram Krishna Rao, Vemula Veeresham, Anjaiah, MLC Prabhakar Rao, GHMC special officer Somesh Kumar, HMDA metropolitan commissioner Shalini Mishra inspected Durgam Cheruvu and Rangadham Cheruvu on Tuesday and found vast portion of Durgam Cheruvu encroached. The market value of the encroached land is estimated to be around Rs 1,500 crore. The total extent of the lake is about 155-160 acres.

Ramalinga Reddy asked the officials to submit a detailed report about the extent of the full tank level and buffer zone of  Durgam Cheruvu and the number of encroachments that have come up around the lake.

The committee has found that about 222 apartments, individual houses, commercial buildings have come up within the FTL level. A few layouts have been approved by HMDA in Kavuri Hills, Kalyan Nagar, Brindavan Colony and Gafoor Nagar prior to 2000 as  per the sanctioned master plan.

The irrigation department has re-fixed the FTL in 2000 after the flash floods, HMDA cancelled the layouts falling within the FTL. The High Court in 2001 ordered  not to interfere with the constructions.
