HYDERABAD: Urea and textile production centres will be set up in northern Telangana, Union minister of state for labour and employment Bandaru Dattatreya has announced.
He made the announcement at a review meeting held with officials from South Central Railway, National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), Ramagundam fertiliser plant, labour welfare department and Employee's State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) here on Wednesday.
Claiming that the projects were in line with the central government's plans for the state, he said these would boost its economy.
“A gas-based Rs 5,250-crore plant with a capacity to produce 12.70 tonnes of urea per annum would come up at Ramagundam in Karimnagar district. The required gas for the unit will be brought from Mallavaram in Krishna district by the Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation,” he said.
“Urea is an essential item for the farmers of the state and the plant will help increase them agricultural production. Construction of the plant began on September 25 last year and will be completed in 36 months,” he said.The proposed textile park in Warangal would be of good use to cotton farmers as Warangal, Khammam and Karimnagar are rich cotton-growing areas.
Work on the second phase of the 1,600 MW NTPC power plant, estimated to cost Rs 10,000 crore, would commence soon, Dattatreya said.
