HYDERABAD: The stage is all set for holding the World Telugu Conference in the city on a grand scale from December 15 to December 19. The event, to be inaugurated by Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu, is expected to be attended by more than 8,000 Telugu lovers from India and abroad. The conference will begin with an invocation to Saraswati, the Goddess of Learning: ‘Saraswati Namastubhyam, Varade Kaamarupinee, Vidyarambham Karishyami...’.

It will be followed by recitation of a verse from Mahakavi Pothana’s Bhagavatam.
As the government is keen to showcase Telangana’s contribution to the growth of Telugu language and literature, a documentary on the state will be screened every evening at the main venue, Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium, on all the five days.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao asked the organisers to invite Jnanpith awardees from 13 languages to felicitate them at the conference. “We should get the credit that we have felicitated so many Jnanpith awardees,”  he said while reviewing the preparations here on Monday.“The conference should highlight the Telugu language and literature. Cultural programmes should be held at the main venue on all the five days. Every connoisseur of literature and language should get a message that anybody wishing to attend the conference is welcome,” he added.

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu will be the chief guest, and state governor  ESL Narasimhan and Maharashtra governor Ch Vidyasagar the special guests
