HYDERABAD: Deviating from the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh’s tradition of presenting annual film awards on Ugadi, the state government has decided to present them from Dasara onwards.

“We will present the awards next Dasara onwards,” Cinematography minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav told reporters at Secretariat on Friday. It may be noted here that the state has not conducted its annual film festival ever since the formation of Telangana.

In the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, the Nandi Film Awards was presented to honour films and film personalities. The TS, however, has decided to change the nomenclature of the awards as well. “We are considering four names: Nemali, Simham, Kakatiya Kala Toranam and Palapitta for the annual film awards,” the minister said.

Srinivas Yadav said they have identified two to three locations in the city for setting up a film institute. The location would be finalised shortly, he added.
