HYDERABAD: Senior Congress leaders and former Union Minister Jairam Ramesh said that his latest book “Intertwined Lives - PN Haksar and Indira Gandhi” was apolitical. Participating in an interaction on his book in the city here on Saturday, Jairam said that the nationalisation of banks was the idea of both Gandhi and Haksar.

The decision of nationalising the banks was taken keeping the nation’s interests in mind and to have control over the economic sector, the Congress leader said. He termed Haksar as a Democrat who was very close to Indira Gandhi. “Haksar is a real communist. He was in the highest decision making body member in CPI,” Jairam said.

Jairam, the author of several books, stated that perhaps “Intertwined Lives - PN Haksar and Indira Gandhi” would be his last book.
