HYDERABAD: For the first time, two native words of the State- Bathukamma and Bonalu - which are related to Telangana culture and tradition - are all set to be included in the Oxford English Dictionary (OED).  Oxford University Press (OUP) has decided to consider these words for drafting for the next edition of dictionary.

The OUP informed the same to Telangana Jagruthi founder and Nizamabad MP K Kavitha through a letter. Kavitha suggested the OUP to include Bathukamma and Bonalu in Oxford Dictionary in November last year.  Responding positively to her request, OED Revision Editor Penny in a letter informed Kavitha that the two words would be included.

It may be recalled that the Oxford English Dictionary has added several south Indian words in its previous editions. They are lungi, vada, dosa, puri, panchayat, anna, gulab jamun,  abba(appa), Devi, mirch masala and others. Telangana Jagruthi has been trying for the cultural renaissance  of Telangana, when the state was formed.
