Subhash Reddy from Telangana among four CJs picked up by Collegium to join Supreme Court

He continued as HC judge till his elevation as CJ of Gujarat HC on Feb 13, 2016.

HYDERABAD: The Supreme Court collegium on Tuesday cleared the names of four Chief Justices of various High Courts who included Gujarat High Court Chief Justice Ramayyagiri Subhash Reddy for their elevation as Apex Court judges. If the recommendations are cleared the strength of the Supreme Court would be 28 as against the sanctioned strength of 31.  Justice Subhash Reddy will be the first Supreme Court judge from Telangana after the state bifurcation.

It is learnt that the SC collegium comprising Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi and Justices Madan B Lokur, Kurien Joseph, AK Sikri and SA Bobde have unanimously recommended the Centre for elevation of Chief Justices Subhash Reddy of Gujarat HC, Hemant Gupta of Madhya Pradesh HC, MR Shah of Patna HC and Ajay Rastogi of Tripura HC as the apex court judges.

Justice Subhash Reddy was born on Jan 5, 1957 at Kamaram village in Medak district.  After completing his school education in Shankarampet, he moved to Hyderabad for higher education. He obtained his law degree from Osmania University and enrolled as an advocate on the rolls of the Bar Council of AP and joined the chambers of Justice B Subhashan Reddy, presently Lok Ayukta for AP and Telangana.  Later

Justice Subhash Reddy set up his own practice. 
He actively practised in civil, criminal, Constitutional and almost all other branches of law. Besides, he was elected unanimously as the president of AP High Court Advocates’ Association for the year 2001-2002.

He was elevated as Additional Judge of the High Court of AP on Dec 2, 2002 and sworn in as permanent judge of the High Court on June 24, 2004. He continued as HC judge till his elevation as CJ of Gujarat HC on Feb 13, 2016.
