HYDERABAD: This summer, Telangana has received an unusually high amount of rainfall, and surprisingly, it has been one of the wettest summers in the region in the last few decades. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that between March 1 and May 8, Telangana recorded a rainfall of 135 mm, which is more than three times the normal rainfall of 41.3 mm for this period. This represents a rise of 229 per cent from the normal rainfall.
The unusual rainfall pattern in Telangana this summer has also brought about a surge in hailstorms, which are now being reported regularly in many parts of the State. In the past, hailstorms were limited to a few areas, but this year they have become more widespread.
The prevailing weather conditions in Telangana can be attributed to a trough extending from interior Karnataka to Vidarbha, and the influx of moisture from the Bay of Bengal. These factors are contributing to the formation of cumulonimbus clouds every evening, resulting in widespread rain and hailstorms across the State, said meteorological officials.
As per the weather forecast, there is a possibility of rainfall on Wednesday. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has requested citizens to report any fallen trees/branches that obstruct vehicle movement, clear water stagnation, rescue humans, pets, and animals, and help people stuck in floods or building collapses. They have also asked people to provide first-aid to victims.However, from Thursday onwards, the temperatures are expected to rise again. According to experts, the maximum temperatures in isolated areas of Telangana may increase by 2°C to 3°C.
