KAMAREDDY : The heavy rain that began on Monday evening continued till the early hours of Tuesday, disrupting normal life across Kamareddy district and causing widespread inundation.
According to official data, the district received an average rainfall of 73.5 mm till Tuesday morning. Banswada recorded the highest rainfall at 135 mm, while Madnoor received 22.6 mm. Kamareddy town received more than 10 cm of rain.
Nearly half the mandals recorded normal rainfall, while the remaining mandals fell under the excess and large excess rainfall categories.
Several streams, tanks and other water bodies overflowed following the incessant rain. The century-old Minor Irrigation tank overflowed, while the Pocharam Project received substantial inflows from upstream areas. Road connectivity was disrupted on the Yellareddy-Lingampet road and the Thirmanpally-Thanda road in Sadashivanagar mandal after overflowing streams submerged the roads.
In a major rescue operation, police and fire department personnel rescued 45 members of a marriage party after their bus got stranded in floodwaters while travelling from Gollapally to Rangampet. Water entered the vehicle’s silencer, forcing it to halt. The passengers were safely evacuated and shifted to another bus.
