HYDERABAD: The Central Water Commission (CWC) will convene a meeting with Maharashtra and Telangana officials on September 1 to discuss the Tummidihatti barrage.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 11 seeking a meeting with Maharashtra on the proposed barrage. He urged the prime minister to facilitate talks with the Maharashtra government to enable construction of the barrage and utilisation of Godavari waters for Telangana’s future irrigation and drinking water needs.
Following the request, the CWC decided to convene a joint meeting. “A meeting under the chairmanship of Chairman, CWC, to deliberate upon the technical and inter-state issues concerning the construction of the Tummidihatti barrage on Pranahita River has been proposed by the Government of Telangana. The meeting will be held in Delhi on September 1 at 11 am,” Neeraj Kumar Sharma, director (Project Appraisal, South), said in a letter.

Meanwhile, the CWC will convene the second meeting of the committee constituted to resolve water-related issues between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on September 7 in Delhi.
The committee, constituted under the CWC chairman in January 2026, was tasked with examining key issues concerning water management between the two States and submitting a report to the Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation within three months.
AP, TG yet to send agenda to CWC
The second meeting, under the chairmanship of the CWC chairman, is scheduled for 10.30 am on September 7.
The first meeting was held on January 30, when both states were asked to submit detailed agenda items and supporting data for further deliberations. The minutes were circulated to committee members in February.
“Despite several reminders to both the states, detailed agenda items are still awaited from their end. Further, DO letters were also sent to both the state governments requesting submission of their agenda points required for deliberations in the next meeting. However, no detailed agenda item has yet been received from any of the states,” Rakesh Kumar, chief engineer (Project Appraisal Organisation), CWC, said in his communication.
