HYDERABAD: Even as the suicides of students in educational institutions are bothering the government, an incident of ragging in the state-run Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) college in the state capital had put the state government in a spot.

The ragging incident was reported in ESIC college at Sanathnagar where the dean of the college himself complained to the police about  ragging by senior medical students. The college authorities reportedly asked the seniors to tender an apology to juniors but the latter did not heed.
The Dean of medical college Srinivas lodged a complaint with SR Nagar police seeking action against the senior medical students. According to police, some senior students teased the juniors including girls. ‘‘They asked the juniors to do their personal work. Unable to bear the torture, the juniors brought the issue to the notice of the management,’’ police said.

The college management reportedly inquired about the incident and identified the seniors who ragged the juniors.  When they were asked  to tender an apology, they refused to do so. Based on an internal inquiry, the Dean lodged a complaint with police.

SR Nagar inspector Waheeduddin said they did receive a complaint in connection with ragging incidents at the medical college but they are yet to register a case. “As the college is closed for Diwali holidays, we could not question the senior students. Once we question them and record the statements of the victims, we will register cases, ’’ police said.
