CHENNAI: She wanted her son to be featured in newspapers for the things she hoped he would achieve in life. But M Alamelu’s wish seems to come true in a way she would have never imagined—an untimely death of her son M Surya following a road accident at Korrukupet and her bold decision to donate his organs as Surya had always wished.

“My son should be the inspiration for others to donate their organs,” says the mother, with a determined tone, even as she lost her youngest child. Alamelu said how it was Surya himself who spoke loftily on organ donation after death. Surya was the first person in the family to enter a college and both his elder brothers are illiterate.

On Tuesday, doctors declared him brain dead.

The next day, Surya’s organs were successfully harvested by the doctors at various hospitals, including Stanley Hospital, Kilpuak Medical College and Hospital, Government Eye Hospital, Egmore, and Apollo Hospitals.
