WARANGAL: Probably, there can be no better example of humanity than this. A Muslim woman, who is a member of an old-age home in Hanmakonda town, Telangana, performed the last rites of a man as per Hindu tradition.
The man, 75-year-old Keerthi Srinivas who joined Sahrudaya old-age home in Hanmakonda town, died last week after a prolonged illness.
Shockingly, his son Sharath, who was informed of the news, paid a quick visit, and left the place. He allegedly declined to perform the last rites, saying he had converted to Christianity. The man’s relatives too visited but no one came forward for the same.
Finally, the Muslim woman, Md Yakubee, decided to do the last rites of Srinivas and performed it as per Hindu tradition. She took part in the final procession of the body to the cremation ground. Carrying a pot on her shoulder, she lit the funeral pyre.
The founder of the old-age home, Md Mahaboob Ali alias Chotu, told The Sunday Standard that the members have been taking special care of the senior citizens and looking after their needs, regardless of their religion or caste.
