THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The All-India Road Transport Workers’ Federation(AIRTWF) will on Saturday stage a protest against the Centre’s decision to allegedly push through the Motor Vehicle Act (Amendment) Bill, 2016 in the final few days of the Budget Session of Parliament.

“It is a draconian Bill, which is anti-people and anti-worker. The Bill was introduced at the last minute with the intention of passing it hastily without discussion.

Protests will be staged nation-wide.” said K K Divakaran, AIRTWF general secretary and CITU national secretary.

According to Divakaran, the Bill was an attempt by the Narendra Modi Government to turn over the core road transport sector to the big corporates, thereby rendering several lakh motor workers’ jobless.

“Private buses would face stiff competition and would be forced out. Auto, taxi and truck workers’ livelihood is in danger.. The powers vested with state would be usurped by the Centre,” he said.
