WB government to accept Aadhaar as proof of residence for caste certificates

KOLKATA: The West Bengal Government will allow the use of Aadhaar card as proof of identity as well as residence for issuing caste certificates, officials said.     

A notification issued by the the Backward Classes Welfare Department here said that Aadhaar card will be treated as a valid document for residential proof and identity of the applicant, applying for Schedule Caste, Schedule Tribe and Other Backward Class certificates.     

"It is stated that Aadhaar cards needs to be treated as a valid document in regard to proof of identity and local residence in addition to the list of documents," the notification read.
