New Delhi, Dec 4 (PTI) Coming out with a draftnotification for mass emission standards for BS IV compliantquadricycles, the government has prescribed a maximumpermissible kerb weight of 475 kg in case of passengervehicles and 550 kg in case of those carrying goods.

The notification limits carbon monoxide emission to 2gram per km while that of hydrocarbons to 0.55 gram per km andnitrogen oxides to 0.25 gram per km in case of quadricyclesfitted with gasoline or compressed natural Gas (CNG) orLiquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) engine).

"Quadricycle shall be equipped with on-board diagnostic(OBD) systems for emission control which shall have thecapability of identifying the likely area of malfunction bymeans of fault codes stored in computer memory forvehicles manufactured," the draft notification by the Ministryof Road Transport and Highways said.

The ministry has also invited objections and suggestionsfrom stakeholders, affected persons and public by December 24for consideration.

The amendment in the rules will be done in exercise ofthe powers conferred by section 110 of the Motor VehiclesAct, 1988.

The notification said, "The objections or suggestionswhich may be received from any person with respect to the saiddraft rules before the expiry of the period aforesaid will beconsidered by the central government."It also said that maximum permissible kerb weight will be475 kg in case of passenger vehicles and 550 kg in case ofgoods vehicles.

Kerb weight is the weight of a car without occupants orbaggage.

It also said that kerb weight does not include mass ofbatteries in the case of electric/hybrid vehicles and weightof gaseous fuel system including tanks for gaseous fuelstorage in the case of mono, bi or multi-fuel vehicles. PTINAMMKJ.
