9 Injured as Van Overturns

ANANTAPUR: Nine persons were injured, three of them grievously, when an Eicher van belonging to the railways overturned at Thondapadu in Gooty mandal of the district on Wednesday.

According to Gooty SI S Chandpasha, the van belonging to Gooty Railway Diesel Loco Shed was carrying railway workers and officials. It was proceeding to Vemulapadu village in Yadiki mandal for track repairs. When the van driver tried to overtake another vehicle, he lost control over it and the van overturned.

Gooty railway JE G Eswaraiah, field inspector T Rajasimha, gangman M Lalenna received grievous injuries in the incident, while C Sivasai, K Rajagopal Naik, S Pashavali, C Subbarayudu, C Lingamurthy, D Dastagiri and B Ramanjaneyulu suffered minor injuries. However, three others escaped unhurt. The seriously injured were shifted to Guntakal Railway Hospital for treatment. The police registered a case and took up investigation.
