VISAKHAPATNAM: GITAM University which has crossed the 2,000-mark in campus placements in the 2016-17 academic year, presented appreciation awards and placement orders to the students during the ‘Achievers’ Day’ celebrations here on Tuesday.

At a gala function at Shivaji Auditorium on the GITAM campus, students from Engineering, Pharmacy, Architecture, International Business, Management and Science received the awards. “Now, the university is planning to start skill development centres on the three GITAM campuses to encourage students to start their own enterprises and startups,” said vice-chancellor MS Prasada Rao.

With the recruiters changing the selection process last year as the corporate bodies preferred candidates with industrial exposure, application and adaptability to group dynamics, the GITAM has trained the students from the third year itself and the firms have started selection process for the internships.

“IT majors have started doling out offers through various contests, including coding and hacking. These contests challenge the IT skills and aptitude of students. The winners of these events are given placement offers at the end,” said Gurumoorthy Gangadharan, director of the university training and placement wing.
