There has been a lot of attention on Hyundai in recent times with leaked images of i20 Active Crossover creeping up time and again in the news. The car now has been launched at the price tag of INR 6.38 lac and many people would wonder how its different from the sibling Elite i20 hatch, from which it has taken deep inspiration. A lot of hype has built up over this new hatch turned crossover since it would be stepping into an already popular and fast rising market of compact cross. Let us take a look at the contrasting features of the two vehicles.

Exterior

The very first noticeable and prominent change in Hyundai i20 Active is the new projector headlamps in addition to the daytime running LEDs. This was obviously missing in Elite i20 and it does give the compact cross an edge in terms of aesthetic appeal. The inverted Elite i20 grill is featured in Hyundai i20 Active that provides a lot of Ford like appeal to the car from the front.

Ground clearance is more with Hyundai i20 Active compared to Elite i20 which makes sense with the former being a compact cross. Hyundai i20 Active gets a ground clearance of 190mm whereas the same is 170mm for Hyundai Elite i20. There is body cladding throughout the dimensions of Hyundai i20 Active whereas it has plastic appliques on the side doors. The rear end has revamped bumper with rounded fogs.

Interior

Inside the cabin, Hyundai i20 Active has pretty much the same dashboard structure wise, but the crossover does get better design with two color variants including all back with orange hues and all black with blue palettes. Hyundai Elite i20 on the other hand comes with a dual tone theme of beige and black interiors. The same principle is followed for the rest of the interior for Hyundai i20 Active since the vehicle has identical boot space of 285 litre.

As far as leg room and overall comfort is concerned, there is not much to choose from between the two vehicles with their overall dimensions being more or less the same. However, one gets a far more sporty feel inside Hyundai i20 Active when it comes to appearance including the upholstery, dashboard and aluminum pedal, offering themes of either orange or blue.

Engine and Performance

Although the engine remains the same on a fundamental level, it has been modified a bit to generate higher power and torque. The company has claimed to provide a 6 percent improvement in acceleration for the petrol trim and an impressive 11 percent hike for the diesel oil burner. The diesel trim of Hyundai i20 Active produces 90PS power and 220Nm torque with second generation U2 1.4 CRDI motor behind its back. The six speed transmission system for Hyundai i20 Active diesel is manual in contrast to the 5 speed manual transmission system of Hyundai i20 Active petrol. The petrol trim of Hyundai i20 Active runs on a 1.2 Dual VTVT engine that generates 83PS power and 114Nm torque.

Fuel economy has however taken a marginal dip with petrol variant now delivering 17.19kmpl and diesel returning 21.19kmpl as against 18.6kmpl and 22.54kmpl in Elite i20 hatch.

Hope these differences between the two alter-egos will clear the mindset of the enthusiasts who are confused in selecting the best out of the duo.
