BANGALORE: After a long and trying wait of five years, dedicated fans of Rural Star BC Patil will have an opportunity to see him in action on the silver screen. A man who plays many roles in real life, namely of a cop, an actor and a politician too, Patil had developed a fascination for the tinsel world while serving in the police department. He made his debut as hero in the film Kaurava directed by actress Shruthi’s estranged hubby Mahendar. It turned out to be a huge hit at the box office.

With the success of Kaurava, there was no looking back for Patil. He even quit the cop job and took up acting as a full-time profession.

Apart from acting in films, he donned the caps of not only the producer but the director as well. But not one to be stuck in one profession, he quit films after acting in the film Jogula and embraced politics.

As an MLA, Patil played a key role during the HD Kumaraswamy’s regime.

Many political pandits predicted a minister’s post for him, but he remained an MLA.

Now, he is all set to make a comeback with a bang after a gap of five years, with his latest film Salute.

Majority of its shooting was at a college campus in Belgaum, and Patil not only plays the hero but also wrote the script, screenplay and directed the film apart from being a producer! So what inspired his comeback? “I did not leave films altogether after becoming busy in politics. I waited for a good script all these five years,’’ says Patil.

According to financier Nageshkumar, Patil has a number of fans in North Karnataka. “I had accompanied Patil to Davangere, Belgaum, Hubli and other cities in North Karnataka. People never asked him when he will become a minister but about his latest film.

They used to request him to act in good films at par with Kaurava, Dalawayi and Jogula. I was surprised to see people gather around Patil and try to convince him to act in as many films as possible,’’ says Nageshkumar.

The film Salute is about the story of a police officer who joins politics and how he serves the people. “There are many similarities between the script of Salute and my real life. I want to tell the people how police officers can join politics and how they can serve society in a much better way,’’ explains Patil while thanking Nageshkumar for his kind words.

The film Salute has Ashwini as heroine while Vijay Koundinya plays a full-fledged villain. Appreciating Koundinya’s performance in the film, Patil says: “Koundinya’s acting reminds me of my performance in the film Nishkarsha.

He has acted very well. I am sure that Koundinya will be an asset to Kannada film industry.’’ The film Salute is slated for the release on August 15.
