BANGALORE: Renowned scholar and acclaimed critic, Ki Ram Nagaraj, passed away due to a major heart attack on Saturday. He was 65.
After delivering a lecture on ‘srishti and laya’ in Da Ra Bendre’s poetry at Suchitra, Nagaraj complained of chest pain and insisted on going to Bangalore Hospital. However, he fell unconscious at his residence, which he visited on the way. He was later taken to the hospital, where he was declared brought dead. His remains will be kept at Samsa Bayalu Rangamandira, behind Ravindra Kalakshetra, between 11 am and 1 pm on Sunday. Cremation will be held at Banashanakari II Stage crematorium.
Nagaraj was known for his lucid lectures on interdisciplinary cultures and writings and was regarded as Mahaguru in Thondi. He never bothered to publish his works. He was honoured with the Sahitya Parishat, L V Prathisthana and Rajarathnam awards. He was born in Kithane village in Holenarasipura taluk of Hassan district. After completing his education in Bangalore University, Nagaraj had served as a lecturer in National College and Professor in Bangalore University. Nagaraj is survived by three daughters. Two of his daughters are married.
