In 1997, she suffered from Guillian Barre paralysis (a disorder affecting the peripheral nervous system) and when her family and friends suggested medical treatment, she was not very keen on the idea.
Dr Nandita Shah has been practicing homeopathy in India for the last 30 years and she believes each one of us can be our own best doctor most of the time.
She also conducts specific health workshops about reversing diabetes, heart disease, hypertension as well as a host of other diseases.
Nandita believes that a complete change in one’s eating habits, coupled with exercise, is all that is needed to get sugar levels under control.
She opines that our food consumption has changed drastically in the last 30-35 years.
Processed food and animal products such as meat, eggs and milk have become a big part of our diet.
“I found that people who just take medicine do not get cured.
The purpose of taking pills should be to find a cure, not to keep taking them all your life.
For example, high blood sugar is the result of diabetes.
Sugar is not the reason behind the problem.
If that was the case, you could just stop sugar intake.
Why take medicines? Diabetes is insulin resistant which means fat inside muscles.
Its okay to take medicines, but people get into complications if they keep taking them.
The idea is to remove the cause.
” For the past seven years, she has presented the Peas vs.
Pills workshops in India, Ireland, Italy, Denmark, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, UK and USA, to over 5000 participants and inspired others to make dietary and lifestyle changes resulting in positive health.
She adds,”India has got the highest cases of diabetes in the world.
My focus is India right now.
‘Diabetes free India’ is my goal.
” Nandita who studied Homeopathy from the CMP Homeopathic Medical College (Mumbai) and who has also been trained under renowned American physician, author, clinical researcher Dr Neal Barnard, feels that diabetes, heart disease, hypertension and obesity are lifestyle diseases that can be reversed with the same diet.
She signs off, “Focus on healthy, wholesome foods, not medications.
Not on deprivation, but a new way of eating that you can enjoy.
Being a homeopath, the mind and body connection has always been an integral part of my work.
” Nandita is conducting a seminar based on the breakthrough research of Dr Neal Barnard, MD, author of Dr Neal Barnard’s Program for Reversing Diabetes on the November 24 (Saturday) in the city.
