Express News Service

Unable to bear harassment by neighbouring stalls, a 35-year-old man running a mobile canteen vendor along with his wife committed suicide after poisoning their two daughters at Kodigehalli in K R Puram on Thursday.

The deceased have been identified as Nagesh his wife Girjamma, 27, and their daughters Pavitra, 9 and Divya 8. They were residing at Residency Layout.

Pavitra was studying in class IV in Amer Jyoti school, while Divya was in class II standard in a government school.

According to the police, the incident took place on Thursday night. The couple consumed food laced with poison after poisoning their children.

The incident came to light on Friday morning when the neighbours repeatedly knocked the door of their house. When there was no response they grew suspicious and informed the police.

Nagesh, a native of Mandya, along with his wife was running a food stall on a push-cart at ITPM company near ITPL. The other food stall owners in the area started harassing him out of jealousy.

It is also said that some locals—Balkrishna, Chennamma, Ratnamma, Manjamma and Nanjamma— were frequently quarrelling with Nagesh over petty issues and they had filed a complaint against him in Mahadevapura police station and he was arrested.

After being released, he continued his business at the same spot, where he was allegedly tortured by neighbouring stall owners.

It is said that the family was also facing financial problems. No suicide note was left behind by them, the police said. The K R Puram police have registered a case and are investigating.
