How to do it
Step 1 : First using a French knot embroidery stitch, I gave a polka dot effect to the entire belt.
Step 2:Then on one end of the belt, I fixed the buckle. To do so, I first marked from where the prong would come out.
Step 3:After that I cut a straight line using my scissors
Step 4:Using a button hole stitch, I secured the cut. To make a button hole, I passed a thread through the eye of the needle and secured its end.
Step 5:Then from wrong side of the belt very close to the slit, I had made earlier, I pushed my needle to the side. Then I passed the needle through the open cut again to the wrong side but this time a little far away from the slit side.
Step 6: By doing so, a loop is formed.Pass the needle through the loop before completing the stitch. By doing so, you would be making a knot on the slit side of the stitch. Keep repeating the stitch till you are done all around the slit.
Step 7:Once the button hole stitch is done, pass the prong through the button hole and fold the belt around the bar and stitch it on all ends.
Step 8:Wrap the belt around your waist and mark where you want your belt holes. Then using the button hole stitch, seal all the holes and you are done.
PS: Since I used a French knot to create polka dots, I had open stitches on the back side of the belt. To cover the thread, I used a thick ribbon and stitched it over the stitches.
If you are a beginner and not so comfortable stitching, you can just use a fabric glue to secure the ribbon in place.
Things you need
A ribbon roll or a piece of cloth cut to belt measurement, say 1.5 inch width and length can depend on your waist size. PS: For the project, I am just recycling an old plain cloth belt.
