BENGALURU: Tension prevailed in front of the Muddevanavara Mutt at Chikkajala near Bengaluru after villagers staged a protest over alleged sexual activities by the son of the religious leader of the institution.
The protest was triggered by a video of the man and a small-time actress caught in a sexual act that went viral on social networking sites and local cable news channels.
Villagers alleged the man, who is also in-charge of the mutt, was having an affair with a woman with the support of the father. "No such activities should be permitted in the mutt," he said.
A senior officer from the Chiakkajala police station said the local people tried to barge into the mutt demanding that swamiji and his son leave the mutt. Policemen were deployed in the locality to prevent violence.
"There is a property dispute and some internal issues in the mutt. If the woman files any complaint we can take action against the swamiji's son. Since there is no complaint by anyone we do not want to reveal any details of the videotape," Girish S, DCP (North-East) said.
