BENGALURU: Over 120 non-teaching staff appointed during the fag end of Prof K S Rangappa’s tenure as Vice Chancellor of the University of Mysore are in fear of losing their jobs as the Governor and Chancellor Vajubhai Vala has issued an order asking State Higher Education Department to remove all those appointed during December 2016.
Following the recent inquiry committee report by a committee constituted by the Governor, this order has been issued. The order states: “As it is mentioned in the inquiry report, the appointments for non-teaching posts made during December 2016 were made against the rules and norms of recruitment and they should be terminated from services immediately.”
Meanwhile, the Governor even directed to file a case under the Anti-Corruption Act against the then officials who were involved in this recruitment and the order even asks to file a criminal case against those who are involved in this recruitment process.
However, the Governor insisted the State Department of Higher Education submit a report regarding action taken within one month of this order and stated: “It is also noticed that such appointments have been made in violation of reservation policy and these employees have been paid out of university funds. The appointments to institutions like a university shall be made strictly by following the provision of the act, rules and regulations and in compliance with the reservation policy.”
Background
The then in-charge vice-chancellor of the university of Mysore Prof Mane had filed a complaint before the Governor alleging that over 120 staff appointed for various non-teaching posts were against the norms. Considering the complaint, the Governor constituted a inquiry committee and it submitted a report recently.
As per the documents available, these appointments were made towards the end of his tenure as Vice Chancellor. In the complaint, Prof Mane mentioned 90 people were appointed, but the inquiry report identified 120 such illegal appointments.
