BENGALURU: Expelled AIADMK leader V K Sasikala and her niece J Ilavarasi have both been officially registered for Bangalore University’s distance education course. As Ilavarasi was to go on parole, the authorities of the Bangalore University Distance Education department advanced their admission schedule from Saturday to Thursday and visited Parappana Agrahara Central Prison to complete the procedures.

Speaking after completing the admission process, Bangalore University’s Director of Distance Education department Professor B C Mylarappa said, “We received information from jail authorities that Ilavarasi was expected to go on parole. So, we visited the prison Thursday morning and completed the admission process for a certificate course in Kannada.” Sasikala had convinced Ilavarasi to get enrolled in the course with her. “Ilavarasi expressed her interest to join the course and we have completed the admission process for both of them,” said Mylarappa. With this, Sasikala and Ilavarasi have officially become students of Bangalore University’s correspondence course.

“Both were happy that they are enrolling in the course and we informed them that we will provide them with the study material and the teacher would come to the jail and teach them during contact classes,” said Mylarappa. However, for another 257 candidates who are also jail inmates, the university is yet to complete the admission process for distant education, which is to be done on Saturday.
