Over 15,000 students of class 6-12 are expected to take part in the National Robotics competition launched by Anna University Vice Chancellor M Raja Ram.
The Public Affairs Officer of the US Consulate, David Gainer, was also present at the launch of the event.
The purpose of the competition is to “increase innovation capabilities of Indian robotics,” as per a release by YottaEvents, a unit of the Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Foundation and the organisers of the event.
The scope for development of the robotics industry in India is vast, with the country’s market share accounting for only 0.9 per cent of the total 7.6 billion dollar industry. The organisers of the competition hope that by encouraging students to pursue an interest in robotics, India would be on a par with other countries like Japan, Germany and the US in robotics. The last date for registration is July 31, 2013, while the finals will be held in December.
