Free temporary currency exchange counters at Chennai Airport

These counters would be allowed to function ‘free of cost’ in the premises upto 31.12.2016, according to an official statement.

CHENNAI: As part of extending support to the central government's demonetisation campaign and facilitating air travellers, Airports Authority of India (AAI) will now allow Nationalised /any scheduled commercial bank to open and operate currency exchange counter on temporary basis at Chennai Airport. 

This step is a part of the implementation of the decision taken by AAI at Central Headquarters at its airports across the country upto 31st December 2016, subject to availability of space, an official statement said. 

These counters would be allowed to function ‘free of cost’ in the premises upto 31.12.2016, according to an official statement. 

Apart from providing space to the counters, they would also not be levied electricity charges. the statement added. 

So far, State Bank of India, Indian Bank, Dena Bank, City Union Bank, ICICI Bank and IDBI have opened their exchange counters to facilitate currency exchanges at both the International and Domestic terminals of the Chennai airport.
