CHENNAI: Close relatives of ousted AIADMK general secretary VK Sasikala, SR Baskaran and his wife Sreedhaladevi, were on Thursday convicted by the Madras High Court for offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Indian Penal Code.

Justice G Jayachandran upheld the order of a special CBI court, which awarded Baskaran and Sreedhaladevi five and three years rigorous imprisonment respectively in 2008, while dismissing a petition challenging the sentence.

“Through documentary and ocular evidence, the prosecution has proved the guilt of the accused to the core,” the judge said.
