CHENNAI: A 28-year-old man ragpicker was arrested for burgling locked houses at Taramani and Adyar. Police recovered 10 sovereigns from Shakthivel. Police scanned CCTV footage from different areas and found Shakthivel checking locked houses and breaking into them. “He had made entry into house in Elephant Gate Police Station limits and took away nearly 15 sovereigns and `2 lakh in cash,” the police said.  “With the help of the footage, police nabbed him when he was taking rest behind Kannagi Statue on Marina. He was remanded in judicial custody,” an officer said.

3 held for murder of rowdy
A day after a history-sheeter was found dead with cut injuries at Pattabiram, three persons arrested in connection with the murder. The deceased Kakkan (38) resided at Bajanai Koil Street at Pattabiram. On Tuesday, he was found dead with cut injuries. Locals alerted police. During investigation, it was found that Kakkan had several chain snatching cases against him. Recently, Kakkan had assaulted one Alex after a fight. On Tuesday, Alex and his associates Sathish Kumar and Eli alias Sundar allegedly came on a motorcycle and hacked Kakkan to death, a police official said. All three were arrested and remanded in judicial custody.

Man attacked over biz deal
Two persons were arrested after a clash broke out between a group of four and another individual over a business deal in a guest house at Aynavaram during the wee hours of Wednesday. Police said N Hemanath Ram Kumar (26) of  Villivakkam, R Mohan (30) of Perungalathur and their associates Jegan and Poovanam had struck a deal to sell chloroform to Zahir Hussain of Tirunelveli. “As part of the deal, Zahir handed over `25,000 to the four men in the guest house. But the four demanded more and in the fight that ensued, they attacked Zahir. In a fit of rage, Zahir broke a beer bottle and attacked them,” said a police personnel. 

Jegan and Poovanam escaped. Zahir alerted the police, who rushed to the spot and took Mohan to the Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. Police have seized five phones and two small knives from the gang and registered a case. They have arrested Hemanath Ram Kumar and Mohan and are investigating how the gang got access to chloroform.
