HYDERABAD: Former union minister P. Upendra, who resigned from Congress last week, Monday joined the Prajya Rajyam party floated recently by Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi.

Chiranjeevi said the party would benefit from Upendra's rich political experience. He is the second senior politician after former union minister and veteran Congress leader P. Shiv Shankar, who joined Prajya Rajyam Nov 15.

Upendra will work as an advisor for Prajya Rajyam.

The two-time Lok Sabha member from Vijayawada had quit Congress party last week. He said that he was more or less idle since 1999 as the Congress leadership did not use his services either at the national level or in the state.

He had joined Congress in 1994, after being expelled from Telugu Desam party.
