HYDERABAD: The drive on the PV Narasimha Rao Elevated Expressway between Mehdipatnam and Aramgarh junction to reach the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad will be smoother in a few days as the bumps on certain stretches of the 11.6-km flyover are being rectified at a swift pace.

Over 80 per cent of the work has been completed and remaining will would be completed in another week’s time, according to the officials of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA).

Experts from the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) after carrying out a Bump Integrated Test (BIT) on the elevated corridor last month identified 15 expansion joints that are bumpy and require rectification so that the entire stretch becomes smoother and safer to drive on.

To make the surface level smooth, the HMDA without disturbing traffic movement, is peeling off bitumen on short stretches and laying fresh bitumen to correct the levels. The work is being carried out by the contractor of the PVNR Expressway.

The HMDA is carrying out the repairs as commuters driving on the elevated corridor complained of a bumpy ride.

As per the norms, 2,000-2,500 bumps are standard in a 1 km stretch and these are not noticed while the driving.

If the bumps are more than 3,000- 3,500, there is a need for rectification.

At 15 joints, the JNTU identified bumps which are between 3,000-3,500 in number, HMDA officials said.
