HYDERABAD: Drinking water is a major problem in Uppal area. It is supplied on alternate days or once in three days. Even the quantity of water supplied is meagre. As a result, people living in about 30 colonies in the area are worst-hit.
When we explained about the problem to local MLA NVSS Prabhakar, he promised construction of an overhead tank at Balaji Enclave. We want corporators to focus on the issue and strive for construction of overhead tanks in the area.
Another major problem which needs to be addressed in the area is the open nala (drain) The nala originates from the Nacharam lake and passes through Chilukanagar, Kalyanpuri, other areas before merging into the Uppal lake.
Effluents from many industries in Nacharam area also flow into nala. As a result the sewage and hazardous materials seep into the ground and contaminate the ground water in the areas. Colonies in the area like North Kalyanpuri, Giri Colony and Balaji Colony are beset with the problem of unsafe ground water.
Besides, the nala has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Not even fogging is done to control mosquitoes.
Thus the open nala has virtually become a sewer and a closed pipe conduit in its place is an urgent need.
GHMC officials, ward contestants and political parties should immediately focus on the issue as the open nala is causing severe damage to the residents’ health and contributing to the area’s growing pollution.
Another long-pending issue which needs to be addressed is the narrow Uppal-Ghatkesar road. The narrow stretch from Uppal to Boduppal is causing traffic jams.
The road needs to be sufficiently widened. There was a proposal for laying a bypass road from Uppal to Ghatkesar but it is yet to take off. Poll contestants should strive for either widening of the road or laying of a bypass road to ease the traffic problem at Uppal.
