HYDERABAD: A day after Kachiguda police recorded the statement of a 28-year-old woman, who was duped by an owner of Mayur pan shop on Saturday, the investigating officer began the process of filing a petition before the court seeking police custody of the accused for questioning. Upender Varma was already arrested by police for cheating the woman on pretext of love and marriage.  When the woman was pursing her higher studies in the USA, he asked her to return to city saying that he would marry her. After she reached the city, Upender Varma started mentally and physically harassing her.

The woman had disputes with Upender Varma after she noticed that he is a married person. In the presence of woman’s parents, Varma promised that he would give divorce to his first wife and marry her. As Varma started avoiding the woman, she left for the USA for her higher studies.

“When I was pursuing my studies in the USA, Upender Varma called me over phone and requested to return to the city to marry me. Believing his words, I returned to the city. He married me in the presence of his friends at a flat in Banjara Hills. Later, we led a marital life for a few months,’’ the victim said in her statement. Meanwhile, police registered cases on miscreants for posting and circulating pictures and videos of the victim.
