KOCHI: Kochi is losing one of its most efficient administrators with Corporation secretary Mini Antony bidding adieu to the city to take charge as Alappuzha District Collector. She had an in-depth knowledge of the problems faced by the city and contributed a lot to its development.
Appointed the secretary of the Corporation in April 2007, Mini was instrumental in formulating projects under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
She played a major role in availing sanctions for the projects from the Central and State Governments. “I am satisfied with my performance as the Corporation secretary,’’ said Mini. “Lack of infrastructure is the major problem faced by the city. A number of infrastructure projects have been sanctioned under the JNNURM which will soon take off,’’ she said. An IAS officer was appointed as Corporation secretary since the JNNURM projects were being implemented in the city.
Though happy to serve as the Collector in her home district, she is a little bit anxious as the people of Alappuzha are expecting a lot from her. “Alappuzha has a long coastal and agricultural belt. It’s a sensitive area and there are various problems to be dealt with.
Spreading of diseases during the monsoon is a major problem faced by the district,’’ she said. “Though I was born and brought up in Alappuzha, I am going back to my home district after a gap of 10 years. I have to study the problems of the district. People are expecting a lot from me and I have to rise to their expectations,’’ said Mini. An officer of 1993 Civil Service (executive), Mini was first appointed as the Alappuzha RDO and served in the same capacity at Malappuram.
In Kochi, she was the RDO of Fort Kochi and additional district magistrate before being appointed as the Corporation secretary.
A winner of many elocution competitions at the school and college levels, she was the chairperson of St Joseph’s Women’s College, Alappuzha.
