Binoy Moolampally, a 34-year old, who has been paralysed and bed-ridden, for the past seven years, is a role model for many who wilts at the slightest challenge.

His ardor for cartoons has earned him a name. Binoy was like anybody else before seven years, with lot of vigour and love for life. “But, the whole world turned upside down one day. I was on the way to my work place when I suddenly collapsed. Ever since my life has been restricted to bed,” says, Binoy. Doctors identified his disease as Chronic inflammatory Demyelinating polyneuropathy, a disorder of peripheral nervous system. His stagnant life took a somewhat colourful turn when his cousin Jiss Mon donated a drawing kit.

“Then on I was full immersed into drawings,” he said. Binoy draws with his   paralysed hands with the support of a pillow. His drawing have made him popular among society he lives. “Until then, I was unknown to villagers here. Many like Fr Dennis Palackaparambil, E J Job, Sabu, a crime branch police official and Mary James, help me to buy drawing items,” says Binoy.

Binoy adds that initially, he was into drawing without an aim when his friend Job asked him to try cartoons. “Then, I found it interesting,” says Binoy.

His cartoons are mostly based on politics and literature. E M S, Sonia Gandhi, K M Mani, A B Barden, Bajpai, Bal Thackery,, Malayatoor, O N V Kurup feature in some of his works.

However, his work doesn’t reflect anything negative. Binoy has just completed a series of 54 drawings based on Bible and planning to come out with a album of it. Recognizing his talent, his friends had conducted a

two-day exhibition recently.

He is also interested in keeping record of important newspaper news items and is well aware of politics, sports, history and contemporary issues.  He has a dream to meet Kochouseph Chittilappilly and Boby Chemmannur.

“My next plan is to sketch about Mahatma Gandhi and a series of works against  corruption and Moolampally land acquisition issue,” says, Binoy. “He was silent and unknown to all, even the neighbours. Now, he is popular and a role model for all of us owing to his talent and attitude to life,” says Mary James, his neighbbour and friend.

He is registered patient in palliative care unit of Ernakulam general hospital.
