‘Jaiva Bhavanam’ Launched

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The ‘Jaiva Bhavanam’ project of Janasree Sustainable Development Mission was inaugurated by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy by handing over a sapling to  actor Jagadeesh here on Thursday on the Jaivasree office premises. Health Minister V S Sivakumar opened the Onam market. M M Hassan, chairman of Janasree, presided over the function.

 The Jaiva Bhavanam project is intended to promote organic farming at one lakh households of Janasree members across the state. Free seeds and saplings will be distributed by Krishi Bhavan. It is aimed to produce pesticide-free vegetables in a complete organic method within three to months. During the inaugural ceremony, as many as 400 saplings were distributed for free to all who attended the function.

Janasree has 10 lakh members in 50,000 units in the state,  majority of them women. At the Onam market of Janasree, vegetables are being sold at rates lesser than the market price. In the past two years, it has taken up a mission of growing tissue culture plantains in an organic way.
