THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Noted Malayalam filmmaker Sanjeev Sivan has been selected for the Karmaveer Puraskar Global Awards for Social justice and Citizen Action instituted by iCONGO.

According to iCONGO officials, Sanjeev Sivan was selected for the award for his untiring efforts to bring forth social issues that plague the society and his films against social atrocities including child abuse, women trafficking, gender discrimination, dowry, drug abuse and environmental issues.The award would be handed over to him at a function to be held in New Delhi on March 22.

Sanjeev Sivan, younger brother of noted directors Sangeeth Sivan and Santhosh Sivan, started his career as an executive producer in the movies produced by his home banners including award winning ‘Abhayam’, ‘Kesu’ and ‘Johnny’ .

He had directed several documentaries for various international organisations. His second feature movie ‘Venalodungathe’, after Mammotty-starrer ‘Aparichithan’, would hit theatres in March.
