VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has written a letter to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, who holds the Road Transport and Highways portfolio along with Water Resources, requesting the latter’s intervention in the completion of Kanaka Durga flyover project.

The letter, written on Wednesday, has been handed over to the Union minister, who visited the Polavaram project site along with CM Naidu.

In the letter, the CM said, “The extension of time proposal to September 30, 2018 was submitted by the State Roads and Buildings department to the Ministry of Road Transport Highways. To facilitate the contracting firm Soma Enterprise Ltd in getting all eligible payments and to ensure faster execution of the project, instructions may be issued to the officials concerned to approve the proposal.”

He also requested that the change of scope proposal submitted for an amount of Rs 19.068 crore be approved. “Approving the proposal is essential keeping in mind the site location and safe completion of the project. Hence I request you to issue necessary instructions regarding the [two] proposals to complete the project at the earliest,” he said.

The 5.2-km-long flyover, for which Nitin Gadkari himself laid the foundation in December, 2015, has missed multiple deadlines due to administrative and technical issues. The six-lane flyover, being built with about Rs 282 crore, is expected to be ready by January, 2019.
